Members Fishing Contest
All participants and entrants must be a member in good standing of the FRV. The Members Fishing Contest is a fun way to see who caught/released the most and/or biggest muskies of the season.
Fishing Contest Rules
The “catch and release” philosophy was brought to Muskies Inc. in 1968 by Gil Hamm, the founder of Muskies Inc. By 1994, the release record of M.I. membership was 99.37%! With the lunge log an angler can enter and record the details of each fish they catch – creating their very own muskie diary! The Muskies Inc Lunge Log now includes records of over 350,000 fish caught by its members!
- This is a “Total Release” muskie contest. No kept muskies will be accepted. ALL MUSKIES MUST BE RELEASED.
- Entrant must be a member in good standing of the FRV prior to catching the muskie. Muskies caught before becoming a member of the FRV will not be accepted. Affiliate members of the FRV are not eligible to participate in chapter contest.
- Muskie must be caught on legal sport fishing tackle (hook & line) in the United States or Canada in strict compliance with all local, state, or provincial laws. Muskies caught during a closed season do not qualify.
- Muskie must be hooked and played by only one person, and only that person may enter the muskie in the contest. Assistance in landing is permitted.
- The minimum size for all released muskies entered will be 30 inches regardless of local, state, or provincial laws. All fractions of inches will be rounded off to the nearest inch for awarding points. A fraction that is 1/2 inch or more will be rounded up to the next inch. Any fraction less than 1/2 inch will be dropped. Note: A muskie that is smaller than 30″ is not rounded up to make it legal. All musky will be measured from the tip of the lower jaw to the farthest tip of the tail.
- Points for the “Total Release” Fishing Contest are awarded as follows: 4 points per musky plus 1 point for every inch over 30 inches. Any measurement of 1/2 inch or longer will be rounded up. Any fraction of less than 1/2 inch will be dropped.
Point Calculations:
4 points for the first 30 inches, and one point per inch thereafter. (half inch = half point, quarter inch = quarter point) Measurements will be rounded down to nearest quarter of an inch.
There are five divisions:
- Men’s masters
- Women’s masters
- Men’s
- Women’s
- Junior’s (must be under the age of 18)
(Masters divisions are for individuals that have entered over 250 fish in the Lunge log)
